The project...

The project stems from a clear brief from the client: to use shipping containers to create sustainable, compact and rapidly constructed tourist accommodation, without compromising on spatial quality or comfort. To achieve this, we reused the containers as basic structural modules, making the most of their strength. In this way, a substantial part of the building’s structure and cladding was produced quickly and cost-effectively.

The external cladding, comprising an ETICS system and PVC panels with a wood-effect finish, conceals the container’s industrial character, improves its thermal and acoustic performance, and transforms it into a contemporary, warm structure that blends seamlessly into the semi-rural setting in which it is situated. Furthermore, as a technical and aesthetic solution, the structure is topped with a perimeter overhang that houses the services, avoiding any openings in the upper part of the containers. Solar thermal and photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof to further reduce energy consumption.

The result is a modular system that is energy-efficient, low-maintenance and quick to install, and is therefore in line with contemporary principles of sustainability and the circular economy.
